Who is FLOOR and CEILING?

Hi everyone, I’m Wilko Martínez-Cachero. My goal is to work for an NBA organization in a capacity related to scouting and youth development. You can follow me on Twitter @wilkomcv.

I’m 25 years old and I’m from Madrid, Spain. I’ve previously lived in Brasília and Porto Alegre, Brazil, as well as Buenos Aires, Argentina. I’ve also spent time in Canberra, Australia. That means I’m completely fluent in English, Spanish, and Portuguese socially and professionally.

I most recently graduated with a Master of Science in Journalism (Class of 2022) from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA. Prior to that, I got a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism (2020) from Stony Brook University on Long Island, NY.

I currently live in New York City and cover the Brooklyn Nets for Nets On SI, among other professional endeavors in the world of multimedia journalism. Outside of basketball, I’ve most recently worked as a podcast producer in Los Angeles, as an audio reporter in New York, and covered sports tournaments in Spain.

Why is FLOOR and CEILING on Substack now?

I started FLOOR and CEILING during the pandemic as a passion project, and since then, I've been watching tape, cutting clips, crunching numbers, writing scripts, creating graphics, editing videos, and promoting the channel.

It's been a one-man effort that has been incredibly rewarding so far across all levels of basketball — high school, collegiate, and professional. I’ve met front office executives, coaches, scouts, and agents.

But given the demands of today's scouting landscape and what teams are looking for, I wanted to take a step forward and launch a Substack to launch more varied content. My aim is that both subscribers of the channel, as well as those basketball personnel I just mentioned, find value in this Substack.

Of course, any subscriptions will help a great deal and go towards further improving this platform — but the goals of FLOOR and CEILING remain the same: to provide tape and context on youth prospects around the world, with an eye on their futures in the NBA.
